The sermon this week, Watch Your Tongue, was
delivered by Pastor Rob. Everyone has trouble controlling their
speech at times, but all need to realize that words are stronger than
any sword or spear. Pastor Rob further discussed the necessity of
owning the words that you speak and making amends when necessary, and
challenged the congregation to strive to speak good and true, practicing
daily to remove the venom from our hearts. The sermon was
supported with readings by Joe Kern from James 3: 1-12 and Mark 8: 27-38
both from the New Testament. Pastor Rob also read Psalm 120 from
the Old Testament during the sermon.
September 6, 2009
Pastor Rob delivered the sermon this week titled Be
an Honest Laborer. The message was about being a laborer for
God by doing good deeds and helping others. Noting all of the
different laborers that make up our congregation, Pastor Rob ended the
message by saying "These are the hands that the Lord is using everyday." The sermon was
supported with readings from Proverbs 22: 1-2, 8-9, 26-27 from the Old
Testament and Mark 12: 1-11 from the New Testament. Both were read
by Sherwood Smith.
August 30, 2009
In the first ever Combined Service, Marietta
First Christian Church joined the traditional service with the Hispanic
service providing translations so all could enjoy. The sermon,
delivered by Pastor Eduardo from the Hispanic Church, was The Proof
of the Fraternal Love. His message was showing the love of Christ
to all and working to avoid discrimination. The sermon was
supported with readings from Mark 7:1-6; 14, 15 & 21-23 (read by
Rev. Dr. Jerry Gladson) and James 2: 1-13 (read by Pastor Eduardo), both
from the New Testament.
August 23, 2009
Putting on the Whole Armor of God was the
message from Pastor Rob Mason today as he discussed how to give
ourselves protection from the outside world and save the message of
Jesus that we hold despite doubts and pressures in the difficult
times. This message of faith was supported with readings from John
6:56-59 (read by Lola Bethel) and Ephesians 6:10-20 (ready by Pastor
Rob), both from the New Testament.
Postal Food Drive for the Food Pantry
Over 20 volunteers worked on May 9, 2009 from 1:00 pm until 10:00 pm to sort the enormous amount of
food received from the Postal Food Drive. Thanks to all of the volunteers, and
thanks to all of the citizens who donated through your postal carriers.

Your donations were distributed to food pantries in need,
like ours, and then divided up by the type of food. This sorting
process, though time consuming, makes it easier to distribute later and
to identify what types of food are lacking.
The need for our food pantry's service continues to rise due to the tough economic times. Please continue to give generously to your local food pantries. Together we can make a difference! |
60th Anniversary Celebration
This year we are celebrating the 60 year anniversary of our church! 60 years of working in the community. Four members of the church are original members from 1949--Larry Moon, Mildred Lockhart, Kathryn Davis, and Sue Merritt.

One celebration was held on May 24 with food and fellowship.
